Pete Hill
Nominated for Category C. This award recognises a volunteer, professional individual or apprentice who has demonstrated the application of craft skills that have been key in repairing or rescuing a historic site.
Pete was commissioned to participate along with some other professionals and craftspeople to deliver the Design A Sign project with pupils from Loudoun Academy in East Ayrshire as part of the Galston CARS Education & Awareness programme. Pete was a big hit with the pupils, demonstrating metalwork skills on the school’s own forge and engaging the students in hands-on practical tasks. The winning design for The Bucks Head public house was then manufactured by Pete on site at his Ratho Byre Forge. Students from the school visited the forge and had further hands-on experience of metal crafting and watching Pete at his work. The hanging sign for the Bucks head was then manufactured, painted and installed.
